Eye Diseases
Glaucoma
This eye disease, which has no symptoms. is among the leading causes of blindness. Regular office visits to check for this visually threatening disease can nearly eliminate the possibility of vision loss. The examination for glaucoma involves a completely painless and simple measurement of the pressure of fluid in your eye as well as observing physical characteristics of the Optic Nerve inside your eye.
If certain risk factors exist, we will perform a computerized Visual Field Analysis and an Ocular Coherent Tomography (OCT), which will help us confirm or deny the existence of Glaucoma in your eyes. |
Macular Degeneration and Cataracts
Macular Degeneration is a potentially debilitating eye condition can lead to permanent and severe loss of central detail vision if not closely monitored. Many advancements have been made in this condition in stabilizing the destructive changes which can often times occur. This is another condition which tends to occur in our advancing years. But many patients can be identified at a significantly younger age which may prevent some of the more severe stages of this disease.
Cataracts however, are one of the most common eye conditions among adults greater than 60 years of age. While nearly every person will eventually develop this gradual clouding of the internal lens of the eye, very few individuals will ever require surgery. Changes involving the internal lens of the eye can effect the eyeglass prescription as well as occasionally the eye health.

Diabetes and Hypertension
Some of the most preventable vision disturbances occur as a result of patients with Diabetes and Hypertension not having regular eye examinations. These patients are at a particular risk for permanent loss of vision. Regular visits to your eye doctor can in many cases not only detect the presence of Diabetes and/or Hypertension, but can prevent the loss of vision as a result of changes associated with these diseases. Patients who are known to have these existing conditions can be monitored by our viewing the tiny blood vessels located within the Retina of the eyes.
Other Miscellaneous Conditions
Did you know that Brain Tumors can often times first be discovered during a routine eye examination? When the pupil is dilated and your doctor evaluates your Optic Nerve, we are looking for swelling which occurs painlessly as a result of increased intracranial pressure from Brain Tumors. Many other general health conditions can be determined from your eye examination as well, which is why it is so important to have regular examinations.
